SUMMARY:Falkirk Older People's Network Meeting: Exploring Place-Based Ageing Impacts
DESCRIPTION:CVS Falkirk & District is pleased to invite individuals\, community workers and volunteers to attend the Falkirk Older People’s Network (OPN) session on Thursday 28 August 2025 to discuss the future role of the network\, with emphasis on how it can best support current and new members. \nTaking place in person from 10pm – 12pm at 1st Falkirk Scout Hall (Pleasance\, Falkirk\, FK1 1BG)\, this meeting is open to current members\, and those interested in finding out more about the network and its work. \nOffering valuable perspectives on how communities can better support older people\, we are also delighted to welcome guest speaker Dr Lisa Davison\, from the University of Stirling\, to share their research on place-based ageing\, disability\, and community inclusion\, as well as insights that speak directly to our Falkirk District. Expanding on the project\, Dr Davison highlights: \n“The Intersectional Stigma of Place-based Ageing (ISPA) project is a large mixed method study based out of the University of Stirling with colleagues from University of St Andrews\, Newcastle University and University of Bristol. We explore and understand how the stigma attached to where people live can intersect with experiences of disability and ageing to provide nuanced insights into systems that drive exclusion and allow us to tackle the inequalities experienced by older disabled adults. The ISPA project sets out to capture intersectional experience and then translate those insights to changes in the home and wider environment that can tackle that stigma. We also have an incredible range of partners and organisations signed up for our Inclusive Living Alliance who are helping us to develop much more inclusive approaches to ageing-in-place.” \nThe session will be co-chaired by David Paterson and John McGee\, with support from CVS Falkirk & District. Please book your place at this OPN meeting via the designated CVS Falkirk & District Eventbrite site: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/explore-place-based-ageing-impacts-with-the-falkirk-older-peoples-network-tickets-1452398516059 \nIf you have any questions about joining\, or need some assistance with your booking\, please contact our team by email: info@cvsfalkirk.org.uk or phone: 01324 692000. If you cannot make it along on the day\, but would like to find out more about the ISPA project\, please visit their dedicated webpage.
