SUMMARY:New Code of Fundraising Practice Comes into Effect
DESCRIPTION:The Fundraising Regulator has launched a new Code of Fundraising Practice\, which will come into effect on Saturday 1 November 2025. \nThe new code has been developed after an extensive consultation period of 3 years\, with over 200 third sector groups and organisations involved. It aims to be clearer and easier to navigate for the third sector\, fundraisers\, and members of the public\, while delivering a proportionate approach to regulation through a principles-based format. \nThis should reduce the need for separate rules for each fundraising method\, and supporting innovation in the sector as a result\, allowing fundraisers to apply the principles across a broad range of scenarios. \nA 6 month transition period will be in place\, to give those involved time to familiarise themselves with the new code and update internal procedures\, before the new code comes into full effect in November. During that time\, charity trustees and boards will be responsible for reviewing the new Code of Fundraising Practice. \nThe Regulator has also provided the Code Advice Service\, a range of resources to assist the transition\, namely in understanding the Code and organising training. \nGerald Oppenheim\, chief executive of the Fundraising Regulator\, said: \n“The new code is designed to remain relevant and responsive to future changes while maintaining rigorous standards to help fundraising organisations raise much-needed funds. It is clearer\, shorter\, and easier to understand – without sacrificing the specificity and clarity of the current code.” \nFor further information\, including access to the Code Advice Service and supporting resources\, please visit the Fundraising Regulator website.
