SUMMARY:“Staying Alive: Preventing Drug-Related Deaths” Training
DESCRIPTION:The Forth Valley Alcohol and Drug Partnership (FVADP) and Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF) are holding free “Staying Alive: Preventing Drug-related Deaths” training on: \n\nTuesday 20th August\, 9:30am – 4:30pm at Forth Valley College’s Raploch Campus\, Drip Road\, Stirling\, FK1 1RD\nThursday 5th September\, 9:30am – 4:30pm at the Forth Valley Sensory Centre\, Redbrae Road\, Camelon\, FK1 4DD\n\nThis course is designed for staff and managers of frontline services who support people who use substances. \nThe course aims to enable workers to recognise risk factors\, high risk times and support people to reduce risk of drug related death\, and will discuss how services and individuals can better prevent drug related deaths. \nIt will explore the reasons why drug related deaths occur\, highlight recent research on protective factors including engaging in treatment and discuss how workers can support people to access and stay in treatment. \nBy the end of the session participants should be able to: \n\nidentify the physical\, mental and social issues experienced by people who use drugs\ndescribe the impact of multiple exclusions on service engagement\nrecall the risk factors and protective factors for preventing drug related deaths\nidentify the barriers for people who use drugs to accessing and being retained in\nservices\nidentify the reasons why service users engage in high risk behaviours and explore\nstrategies to address\nrecall strategies to engage and retain people in treatment\nrecognise when to refer on to or collaborate with partner agencies\nidentify techniques to promote staff resilience\n\nPlaces are limited and booking is essential. \nTo book your place\, or for further information\, please click on the relevant link: \n\nStirling\nCamelon\n\nAlternatively\, for further information on these or any other SDF courses\, please contact the Administration Team by phone: 0141 221 1175\, or email: enquiries@sdf.org.uk \nSDF offer a range of training courses core funded by the Forth Valley Alcohol and Drug Partnership; to view available courses\, visit the SDF website.
