SUMMARY:Smoking and Mental Health: Understanding the IMPACT Training
DESCRIPTION:IMPACT provides knowledge and understanding around how smoking can affect the effectiveness of some mental health medications and is particularly useful for anyone who may support anyone with mental illness who may smoke.  \n\n\nAimed at NHS\, local authority and third sector staff and volunteers in the Forth Valley area who support people with mental health problems\, this training aims to: equip workers who support people with lived experience of mental ill-health with the knowledge\, skills and confidence to initiate a conversation about smoking\, and to discuss options for supporting those who are ready to quit. \nThe IMPACT Training package includes: two 1-hour e-learning modules\, followed by a 1-hour virtual training session on Microsoft Teams. The virtual training session will focus on: \n\nThe effect of smoking on mental health medications\nDiscussions about smoking and mental health\nInformation on e-cigarettes\nInformation of local services to help people stop smoking\n\nThere are currently two Virtual Training Dates which individuals can register for (the booking form has been linked below to the relevant date): \n\nClick to Register – 18 February 2025\, 11.30am – 12.30pm\nClick to Register – 26 March 2025\, 1pm – 2pm\n\nSpecific sessions for groups of staff/ volunteers can be arranged – please get in touch with their team\, by emailing: hazel.cunningham2@nhs.scot for further information.
