“Raising Finance in New and Innovative Ways” Webinar

March 10, 2021 @ 11:30 am

Free

Social Enterprise Scotland is holding regular, free online webinars for social entrepreneurs throughout March. The sessions take place regularly on Wednesdays, 11:30am – 12:30pm.

Session topics include:

“Do you need to raise finance for your social enterprise? Are you thinking about trying to raise funds in new and innovative ways? Have you found that traditional funding routes are not a suitable solution? Or perhaps you just want to find out about the options that could be available to you to raise capital in a creative way?”

This webinar will cover different ways to raise income, with the opportunity for attendees to share their views and experiences with others who have successfully done this before. Guests will include Toby Sandison, Programme & Communications Officer, Community Shares Scotland, Stuart McCarthy, Isle of Eigg Brewery, Crowdfunder UK, and Louise Hastie, Lower Impact Living CIC.

The last year has seen deep social and economic changes in our local communities. This webinar asks how do we now drive local regeneration to tackle both new and persistent problems? What new solutions do we need? What role does community ownership play? How can social enterprises lead the regeneration and how can communities learn from each other about best practice?

Speakers will include Karlene Doherty, Vacant & Derelict Land Project Manager, DTAS, and Scott Mackay of Midsteeple Quarter in Dumfries amongst others.

Helping social enterprises adapt and develop is a key task for Social Enterprise Scotland in the months and years ahead. During this webinar, they will ask what else they can do, apart from funding and business support? What role could tax and tax reliefs play? How can social enterprises use tax to drive social change? What creative policies could Social Enterprise Scotland have around Business Rates, Council Tax, Landfill Tax and the range of other devolved taxes? How could they help social enterprises?

Joining this session will be Alastair Davis, Chief Executive, Social Investment Scotland, Graham Drummond and Jaime Boswell, Fair Tax Mark, with others to be confirmed.

Mental health has become a vital topic over the past year, and will increase in importance as we emerge from lockdown. Social Enterprise Scotland asks, what role do social enterprises play in the mental health recovery? What role can they play going forward? What mental health impacts has lockdown had on social entrepreneurs themselves?

During this webinar, they will examine the challenges and opportunities, joined by Catherine Eadie, Founding Director, MHScot Workplace Wellbeing CIC, Deborah Grossman, The Wee Retreat CIC, and other speakers to be confirmed.
