SUMMARY:“Moving Minds” Gypsy/Traveller Women’s Voices Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Minority Ethnic Carers of Older People Project (MECOPP) and Falkirk Council have launched the Moving Minds Exhibition at Falkirk Town Hall\, Westbridge Street\, Falkirk\, FK1 5RS\, available 10am – 4pm. \nLaunched on Friday 8th March (as part of International Women’s Day)\, the exhibit offers an introduction to MECOPP’s Gypsy/Traveller Women’s Voices project\, and an opportunity to view story boards from Gypsy/Traveller women on their heritage and culture. \nGypsy/Traveller Women’s Voices developed from a community conversation regarding the strength of collective voices and MECOPP. Funding was awarded in summer 2018 from Scottish Government Equality Unit through their Promoting Equality and cohesion fund for the development and provision of a 2-year project. \nThe focus of the project is to bring Gypsy/Traveller women together in a collective voice with the aim of recognising\, enhancing and developing skills and strengths to promote themselves into leading roles within their community at individual\, societal and political levels. Gypsy/Traveller Women’s Voices aims to promote positive identifiable change in the way women are viewed and acted upon within society. \nGypsy/Traveller women are recognised as facing multi-dimensional discrimination through their gender\, their ethnicity and the combination of both. Gypsy/Traveller women are very often the first point of contact for services\, organisations and the settled community and consequently become the person to directly face discrimination and prejudice.
