SUMMARY:“Making Policy Care” Event
DESCRIPTION:The University of the West of Scotland (UWS)-Oxfam Partnership is holding an event on Tuesday 21st January\, 10:30am – 1pm at the UWS Paisley campus\, High Street\, Paisley\, PA1 2BE. \nThe UWS-Oxfam Partnership brings together academics\, the third sector\, policy practitioners and other stakeholders to discuss and promote their shared vision of a more equitable\, sustainable and socially just Scotland. \n“Making Policy Care” aims to provide a space for participants to share their views on the relationship between care\, work\, and poverty. Organisers are particularly keen to have grassroots organisations\, community groups\, local care providers\, and anti-poverty campaigners attend. \nThe event will explore the following questions: \n\nwhat are the key issues relating to care and work (or care-work) that may mean those with a caring role are at higher risk of poverty?\nin relation to these issues\, what kind of evidence may drive change for the better? How can the unique knowledge\, insight and experience of participants be used to address the key issues?\nwhat kind of research could the UWS-Oxfam Partnership contribute to making this change\, perhaps together with participants and their organisations?\nbeyond the evidence\, in what other ways a wider group of stakeholders shift the terms of the debate around care\, work and poverty?\n\nOrganisers hope to have a conversation about what needs to change in Scotland to ensure there is fair recognition of care work\, a more equal redistribution of care responsibilities\, and a better representation of parents and carers in policy and decision making. \nA light lunch will be provided\, along with a free crèche for the duration of the event. Reimbursement will be available on some travel costs. \nTo book your place\, or for further information\, please visit the Eventbrite page.
