SUMMARY:“Community Solutions for Winter ’21” Event
DESCRIPTION:Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s (HIS) Collaborative Communities Team is holding 2 events next week\, “Community Solutions for Winter ‘21 – Helping People Stay Safe and Well in Their Own Home”. \nThe events take place on Wednesday 3rd November\, 10am – 11:30am\, and Thursday 4th November\, 3pm – 4:30pm\, and are in response to the strain winter 2021 is anticipated to have on the health and wellbeing of communities\, and the impact on health and social care systems. \nHelping people stay safe and well in their own home is a priority for HIS and all partners involved in people’s health and safety. People may need to access unscheduled care services (anything from call to GPs\, Out of Hours appointments to an A&E attendances)\, but it benefits their wellbeing when they can return to their own homes as soon as they are medically fit to do so.  Sometimes this may require some additional support in order to make this happen quicker\, such as: transport\, someone checking in on them within 24 hours\, some simple aids\, amongst others. \nAs well as benefiting the person\, returning to their home can help reduce some of the capacity pressures in primary care and acute services.  Ensuring that people who can be supported by other organisations and services are receiving this support to stay safe and well in their home\, means that Primary Care and Acute services can treat those people who are in medical need. \nHIS recognises that community and third sector organisations have faced significant pressures during the COVID-19 pandemic\, and yet were able to adapt and respond in unprecedented ways. This demonstrated to HIS and other partners what it takes to enable community and third sectors organisations to adapt and mobilise rapidly. \nThey want to bring together key community and third sector organisations and groups to understand some of the community solutions that can support people to stay and well in their own home\, what they require to make this happen\, and what they need from other organisations. \nHIS will then use the content from these sessions to inform the national conversation with Scottish Government and other national bodies about what needs to happen to support Community Solutions for winter 2021.
