Children in Scotland (CIS) and YouthLink Scotland hold the joint secretariat for the Cross-Party Group (CPG) on Children and Young People, and have agreed to trial a group of children and young people to act as young co-convenors.
They are currently looking for applications from children and young people aged 8 – 25 years old, who work with an organisation or group with the capacity to provide them with support in advance of all meetings.
The secretariat (ie. CIS and YouthLink Scotland) will provide a briefing to all young co-convenors in advance of each meeting to support this preparation. They will also talk through what chairing the meeting will involve and discuss any concerns.
Co-convenors will attend at least one and up to 5 CPG meetings per year, co-chair a meeting with one of the MSP co-convenors, help choose meeting topics based on suggestions from members of the CPG and the secretariat, and sign off on papers prepared for the CPG by the secretariat.
The secretariat will also provide guidance for all adults attending meetings to ensure that presentations and contributions are accessible for children and young people.
Any children and young people who would like to apply should submit the following information, along with the consent form:
- their name
- date of birth
- where they live (local authority only)
They should also provide answers to the following 3 questions:
- “Why do you want to be involved?”
- “What makes you, you?”
- “Tell us about an issue that you think is important for children and young people and why?”
The deadline for applications is Thursday 21st August.
All applications should be submitted to Chris Ross by email: cross@childreninscotland.org.uk
Please also copy in the member of staff who will be supporting you.
