The Equalities and Human Rights Committee at the Scottish Parliament are currently scrutinising the Children (Equal Protections from Assault) (Scotland) Bill, proposed by John Finnie MSP.
The purpose of this Bill is to end the physical punishment of children by parents or those caring for them by removing the defence of “reasonable chastisement”, which can be used to justify using physical force on a child.
The Committee are aware that this topic has prompted many conversations across the country, and want to hear the views of people across Scotland on this issue.
To help people participate and share what they think, the Committee has created the “Meeting in a Box!”, and are encouraging people from groups clubs across the country to host one. The “Meeting in a Box!” contains tools to facilitate a conversation about the Bill, including a form to send the thoughts to the Committee.
The “Meeting in a Box!” can be downloaded from the Scottish Parliament website. Alternatively, to request a hard copy, contact Parliament by email: equalities.humanrights@parliament.scot
The deadline for submissions is Friday 8th March.
