The Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC) are holding a workshop in February for community organisations on the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act, which is about to come into force.
The February workshop is currently full, but SCDC are operating a waiting list for those who are still interested in a place. This will also allow SCDC to keep you up to date on any possible future workshops.
The final stages of the Act’s development are almost complete, with statutory guidance drafted and regulations going through Scottish Parliament Committees. It is expected that the different parts of the Act will be implemented over the coming months.
The workshop provides community organisations with the opportunity to find out what the Act contains, and how they can make use of it in order to do the sorts of things they want to do as a community. The main focus will be on how community organisations can use participation requests to start a dialogue with public bodies about things that matter to them.
The workshop will also introduce participants to
- new opportunities to be part of community planning processes in their local area.
- provisions around asset ownership and community right to buy land and buildings
- other parts of the Act, such as changes to National Outcomes and duties for local authorities around community food growing.
