Clan Childlaw Training Opportunities

Posted on March 10, 2017

Clan Childlaw, a unique law centre that delivers free legal advice and representation to children and young people, are offering a range of practice-based training opportunities during spring 2017, in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee.

Children’s Hearings

Suitable for those with some or no experience of the children’s hearings system, this course gives an understanding of the system, so delegates are better equipped to explain to the children and families involved what is happening and what to expect.

This course is running on the following dates and times:

  • Thursday 16th March, 10am – 1pm at Anderson Strathern, 1 Rutland Court, Edinburgh, EH3 8EY (Course Code CHAS16)
  • Friday 17th March, 10am – 1pm at Anderson Strathern, 50 George Square, Glasgow, G2 1EH (Course Code CHAS17)
  • Thursday 23rd March, 10am – 1pm at Thornton’s, Whitehall House, 33 Yeaman Shore, Dundee, DD1 4BJ (Course Code CHT23)

Children in the Family

Suitable for anyone working with children or their families, or in the field of child law, this course looks at what parental rights and responsibilities are and how they apply in practice.  The interactive course uses case studies to explore the application of these rights and responsibilities, in contact and residence actions, and examines how they fit in with the rights of a child.

This course is running on the following dates and times:

  • Friday 21st April, 10am – 1pm at Anderson Strathern, 1 Rutland Court, Edinburgh, EH3 8EY (Course Code CFAS21)
  • Wednesday 5th May, 10am – 1pm at Anderson Strathern, 50 George Square, Glasgow, G2 1EH (Course Code CFAS05)
  • Thursday 27th April, 10am – 1pm at Thornton’s, Whitehall House, 33 Yeaman Shore, Dundee, DD1 4BJ (Course Code CFT27)

UNCRC in Practice

Suitable for anyone working with children, or in the field of child law, this session aims to raise the awareness of the rights of children and young people.

It has been widely recognised that children and young people have a relatively low awareness of their rights and yet a comparatively high rate of success in terms of vindicating their rights. This course is part of Clan Childlaw’s national promotion and awareness-raising around the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), especially relevant given the new reporting duties introduced by the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 in relation to UNCRC.

This course is running on the following dates and times:

  • Thursday 11th May, 10am – 1pm at Anderson Strathern, 50 George Square, Glasgow, G2 1EH (Course Code CRAS11)
  • Friday 12th May, 10am – 1pm at Thornton’s, Whitehall House, 33 Yeaman Shore, Dundee, DD1 4BJ (Course Code CRT12)

Throughcare

Suitable for anyone working with children or in the field of child law, this interactive session considers the changes brought in by the Children & Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 in relation to the provision of Continuing care and After care provisions.

This course is running on the following dates and times:

  • Wednesday 17th May, 10am – 1pm at Anderson Strathern, 1 Rutland Court, Edinburgh, EH3 8EY (Course Code CFAS17)
  • Tuesday 23rd May, 10am – 1pm at Anderson Strathern, 50 George Square, Glasgow, G2 1EH (Course Code CFAS23)
  • Wednesday 24th May, 10am – 1pm at Thornton’s, Whitehall House, 33 Yeaman Shore, Dundee, DD1 4BJ (Course Code CFT24)

To book your place at any of the courses, or for more information, please contact Clan Childlaw by phone: 0808 1290522, or email: training@clanchildlaw.org
