While the Cancer Awareness Roadshow is closed for winter, Cancer Research UK’s (CRUK) Cancer Awareness Nurses continue to work with and support local groups, events and activities, prioritising reaching members of the public who are less likely to seek and receive information in other ways.
They are available to visit groups and events Monday – Thursday during the winter months (December – March), either through virtual or in-person visits, and are keen to meet with groups and organisations operating across Falkirk District. They can also be flexible with some dates, and groups are encouraged to still get in touch if they have a request for another date.
A full list of CRUK’s Cancer Awareness Nurses’ free services available throughout the winter is available below:
Virtual or Face to Face Cancer Awareness Talk
CRUK’s cancer awareness presentation is a talk delivered by video call, or in-person, which lasts around an hour, including time for questions and answers. It covers ways to reduce cancer risk, spotting cancer early and the NHS national cancer screening programmes.
(In-person presentations are subject to CRUK’s health and safety criteria being met.)
Cancer Awareness Health Stand
The cancer awareness health stand is manned by 2 of CRUK’s Nurses, and is an opportunity for people to speak to them, as well as:
- discussing how leading a healthy life can reduce cancer risk
- learning about screening and where to get more information
- talking about the importance of spotting cancer early by going to the GP with any concerns
- finding out about local and national services
- take home a wide range of useful leaflets and resources
