As part of the British Science Week which will run from the 11th – 20th March 2016, the British Science Association has launched its Community Grants Scheme.
This grant scheme offers £500 for community groups that work directly with audiences who are traditionally under-represented and currently not engaged in science activity. These might be people who are Black Asian Minority Ethnic, with low socio-economic status, not in education employment or training, with a disability, girls and women, or people who live in a remote and rural location.
Previous activities supported through the scheme have includes field trips to local science centres, museums or other science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related destinations, in-house science workshops or hands -on activities, scientist led tours or nature walks, community created exhibitions, and scientifically informed theatre productions or art activities.
To be eligible for funding, the applicant must be a community based group, the event must target and include audiences that are underrepresented in science, as defined above and the event must be STEM related.
The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 23rd November 2015.
