Art Wise is aimed at parents and infants 0-3 years old. The aim of the group is to respond to the overall emotional needs of participants through art making and creative processes. Art Wise has been designed to enhance attachment and bond between parent and child, as well as empowering parents to feel confident in their relationships and parenting styles or approaches.
It is the hope that being part of a group of other parents will encourage the sharing of stories and feelings, increase feelings of togetherness and make positive friendships and connections. Some people find it hard to talk, or find difficulty putting feelings into words, and often many find it much easier communicating through a paint mark or a texture.
Art Wise starts on 7 May 2024 at Falkirk Trinity Church. The group will run from 10:15am-11:45am and is an ‘open group’ which means that parents and infants can come and go/ can start at any time. It will run for 17 weeks, and is fully funded through the Family Wellbeing Fund.
Tea and coffee (and some snacks) will be provided each week. Sessions are expected to be creative and messy, so wearing old clothes and bringing a spare change of clothing for the wee ones is suggested.

In terms of referral criteria: We are looking to engage with parents or carers with a child aged 0-3yrs old, living in the local area. Parents/ carers can be moms and dads – our groups are mostly mums, however dads are also welcome. Art Wise are particularly interested to engage with moms who recently gave birth and might suffer from perinatal depression or anxiety and come from a disadvantaged background.
