The Agnes Hunter Trust SCIO is an independent charitable trust based in Edinburgh. They offer grants to registered charities in Scotland which specifically support disabled people.
With an annual grants budget of around £550,000 per year, they assist charities’ service delivery and core costs, and strive towards open and trusting grant-giving practice.
They are currently looking for a committed volunteer with direct working knowledge of the third sector to join their Board.
As a funder, the Trust is looking to appoint a Trustee who understands the challenges facing the charities they support, such as someone working as a service provider, or someone with direct or indirect lived experience of disability.
Sound knowledge of charity governance would also be advantageous, however previous Board or Trustee experience is not essential, and they welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds. Training and mentoring can be provided.
The current Board meets in Edinburgh 4 – 5 times per year for half-day sessions, plus other ad-hoc meetings online or in-person. The initial Trustee tenure is for 5 years, renewable for a further 3 years; the position is voluntary, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
The deadline for applications is 9am on Monday 4th March.
Successful shortlisted candidates will be invited to meet with the Chair and some of the current Board members to discuss the role during the week commencing Monday 29th April. This will be followed by an Induction session and then appointment at the next Board meeting on Thursday 30th May for the selected applicant.
For further information, or to request an Application Pack, please contact the Trust Manager, Mrs Sarah Wright, by email: s.wright@agneshunter.org.uk
Alternatively, if you would like an informal conversation about the role, the Trust Manager (or one of the current Trustees) can be contacted at the email address above to request some time to discuss before the deadline date.
Please note, the Trust is open to making adjustments to the recruitment process and Board role to ensure that all abilities and individual needs can be met; anyone looking to discuss this further should contact the Trust Manager.
