Action on Elder Abuse Scotland works to protect older people from harm and abuse. They are part of the UK-wide organisation, Action on Elder Abuse, and support those experiencing or (at risk of) harm and abuse, as well as raising awareness and advocating effective prevention.
Their free Elder Abuse Response Helpline offers a confidential, informal service for anyone seeking advice or support on a range of issues, or just looking for someone to talk to.
The Helpline offers free and impartial advice and support on:
- financial harm or exploitation
- physical harm or abuse
- emotional or psychological abuse
- sexual harm or abuse
- neglect
Calls are entirely confidential, free to call from a landline or mobile, and won’t appear on your phone bill.
The Helpline is operated by a team of dedicated and experienced staff and volunteers. They have recently trained a new team of Scottish-based volunteers to offer a local voice and specialist knowledge of the support available in Scotland.
Operators can help you make the best choices to keep yourself safe, put you in touch with appropriate local agencies, including whether to refer to Adult Protection.
If you are experiencing harm or abuse, or you know of an older person who is, you can call the free Elder Abuse Response Helpline Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm, on 080 8808 8141.
