CVS Falkirk are holding a Get On Board event on Thursday 21st January 2016, 6:30-9:30pm at the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel and Spa, Polmont. The event is open to those interested in becoming board members for third sector organisations in Falkirk.
Get On Board will feature speakers, including representatives from OSCR, who will share with attendees what can be gained from becoming a trustee, and the difference individuals can make as trustees across the Falkirk third sector.
Charity board members play a vital role in the third sector as the people in charge of a charity. They assist in directing its path and volunteer their own time, skills and experience to help make a difference in peoples’ lives.
Board members may be known by other names, such as directors, trustees, governors or committee members, but all perform the same role: they are responsible for ensuring their charity operates as it should.
The third sector is an essential part of communities across the country – from delivering services for older people, to running play groups and sports clubs, to offering advice to people in need, the third sector has proved itself integral.
In Falkirk, there are more than 700 third sector organisations, many of whom have board members who make the final decisions on a range of matters, such as their charity’s finances and activities.
Acting as a board member often only requires a short amount of time a month from individuals, if not less, and can have a huge impact on lives in the community. Board members have a wide variety of skills and experience, and need only be eligible and able to dedicate some of their time to their charity.
At Get On Board, attendees will learn about the eligibility requirements and the process of becoming a charity board member, as well as being able to ask questions of the speakers during a dedicated Q&A session. Members of the CVS Falkirk team will also be available on the night.
