Opportunity No. 451
Brief description:
The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global network of volunteers and staff, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. We help vulnerable people in the UK and abroad prepare for, withstand and recover from emergencies in their own communities.
Full description:
Do you have a 'hands-on' approach to helping people? The Red Cross Therapeutic Care volunteers provide gentle massage to vulnerable people in stressful situations, helping them to relax and reducing their pain.
As a Therapeutic Care volunteer, you'll soon see the beneficial effects of your treatment on those you help. For those who may be bereaved, caring for a sick relative or facing health problems, a simple therapeutic massage and friendly chat can make a world of difference. Your role might include:
Helping reduce stress and pain, providing company and an opportunity to talk, providing gentle hand, neck and shoulder massage, given through clothing.
Therapeutic care volunteers are part of the wider health and social care team, which includes volunteers and staff involved in medical equipment loan, skin camouflage and transport services.
Skills Required:
You should have good interpersonal skills and an understanding of the different physical needs of service users. No previous experience is necessary but volunteers should be willing to learn.
Minimum age: 15
Takes place:
Volunteers typically carry out placements on a weekly, forthnightly or monthly basis, depending on their availability and the needs of the placement. Each session usually lasts 2-3 hours.
The organisation is particularly looking for people with availability during these days and times:
