Opportunity No. 211
On an increasing frequency, news reports are informing us of natural disasters & man-made crises affecting communities across the globe. Do you want to help young people better understand the humanitarian impact of crises & their role as a global citizen?. Our School Speaker programme aims to help young people explore humanitarian values & encourage positive action. As part of the International Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement, the British Red Cross has a unique position in this area. School Speaker volunteers will be invited into primary & secondary schools to deliver interactive workshop
School Speaker volunteers will deliver interactive workshops on a variety of topics such as refugees and asylum seekers, HIV awareness, and the work of the Red Cross, ensuring that appropriate facts and ideas are explored and discussion is encouraged. You can also get involved in the development of resources and to influence the educational programme as it evolves. Tasks include facilitating workshops on humanitarian subjects to groups of young people (ages 8-18) using a range of fun learning and discussion based activities within primary and secondary schools. Recommend changes to the project based on personal ideas and experiences. Support the evaluation process as necessary, assist with the promotion of the School Speaker programme, work with the British Red Cross Health Safety, Child Protection, Equal Opportunities and other similar policies as appropriate.
